Trackback and Pings

Lesson Learned: Trackback DOES work for me, just the Virtual Site thing isn’t able to work it since I’m using WP for it, and not .htaccess.

Put this in your wp-comments php file, where the php bloginfo(‘url’) is the only code for a Trackback Link. It’ll allow you to display your Post ID trackback link, not have WP generate one based on your Virtual Site Url.

< ?php bloginfo('url'); ?>/wp-trackback.php?p=< ?php the_ID() ?>

I had always been looking for a way to include my virtual site structure into Trackbacks, and being vain about using Virtual, and not wanting ugly numbers, I closed my eyes to understanding the above code and where ever I had seen it at WP Support.

So it does work. It does.

Which is good. I have made sure that Pings work since I found that someone I know online is now using WP and that went alright, as I’ve been able to PING from inside posts.

To be able to TRACKBACK on purpose is another thing entirely and I’m happy to know I can do that now.

I also had a slight panic attack [well not really, just a bit almost sort of, in a panicy way when you know something worked before but it wasn't now and you don't know if you did something to make it not work or not and ::hairpull::] earlier today when I tested several, I mean that, posts and pings and back and forth between a couple of my blogs and I couldn’t find that anything was posting.

Duh. I have had my comment moderated if more than one link was in the post. A ping makes that happen. So my ping comments were all sitting in awaiting moderation land. I just didn’t notice. I mustn’t have checked email that entire time either, or I would have noticed my blunder of thought earlier.

What a way to spend the First Day of the New Year. Doing dumb-and-dumber at something you are supposedly smart with. :veryshocked:

I know I did test out trackbacks with ugly site structure long ago, but for some reason, well maybe it’s because I’ve updated things with 1.2.2 and then tried to implement a fix a few weeks ago and then today replaced a few files with CVS current ones, it now works. So I get the both of thems — Virtual Site, but ugly trackback urls. It’s alright. For now.

Misspelt: learned something more

CUCKOO-SPIT, CUCKOO-SPITTLE, n. A dew or exudation found on plants, especially about the joints of lavender and rosemary. Or a froth or spume found on the leaves of certain plants, as on white field-lychnis or catch-fly, called sometimes spatling poppy.

I spelled Lavender as “lavendar” in the Either/Or previous post today (edited to reflect correction invisibly). I noticed it and went to Webster’s 1828 to verify and yes, it was mispelled. But I found that Lavender is referenced in the above word, and felt the desire to post the word and definition.

Is this the stuff that I see sometimes around some of my herbs, or wildflowers in the front of the house? I must do some more research.

It’s spatling poppy or cuckoo-spit or cuckoo-spittle. Interesting. It’s a frothy white thing that I’ve wondered about, it’s not there all the time or often, just seen sometimes, like on the right place of my Purple Cone Flowers in my herb garden, for example, as mentioned above in the definition. I’ve associated it with some mysterious bug, but never wondered past that to find anything in a book or online. Funny how one finds info via odd paths of mistakes. :)

Either/Or Fun for the New Year

Carmon now has RSS via WP as her weblog … way to go Carmon!

I also found this little frivolity on Carmon’s Site: My answers are in BOLD below the numbered line options.

1. Pillow – Down or Polyester or Foam
I prefer Down but don’t own any [yet] due to cost

2. Facial or Manicure or Pedicure
I prefer pedicure though don’t get them nor really want one :) Give me just a foot massage!

3. Journal – Lined or Blank (offline of course!)
Lines are my friends. They make creativity more possible. [I'm a doodler an odd doodler that is]

4. Sleep – Side (which?) or Back or Stomach
Right Side as learned during first pregnancy, but flat on my back is what I find myself in the AM lately

5. Summer – Hammock or Raft in Swimming Pool
Hammock, definitely

6. Winter – Slippers or Socks
Um, well between the two: Socks, but what about the boots? :)

7. Sleep – Heater On or Off
Off!

8. Shower or Bath (bubbles?) …and… Hot or Warm
Hot Shower, or warm bath. Like hot baths but that does me in too fast so warm is only option. So HOT is gotten in the shower.

9. Tea – black or herbal (name favorite blend)
I don’t usually drink tea, but like Green Tea; and Red Rasberry Leaf and the mixes I’ve made with that and other things during past pregnancies. I’m a coffee girl.

10. Massage – neck or foot
Both. Foot means rest of body needs done, so if only one, Neck, Neck, Neck! It’s great and helps for migraines so it’s double duty and a joy.

11. Comforter – Down or Polyester (or?)
Down. We have one but it’s not in use unfortunately. Needs to go to the cleaners.

12. Aromatherapy – Lavender or Jasmine or Rose
Oh I love Lavender.

13. Box of Chocolates or Bowl of Popcorn
Box of chocolates wins hands down.

14. Music – Classical or Jazz or Folk
Classical wins, especially certain things, like Vivaldi, for one.

15. Candles – scented or not
Vanilla or nuthin.

16. Fireplace or Woodstove or Pellet Stove
Fireplace is what we have and we love it, though I’d love a woodstove as well.

17. Outside – Gentle Rain or Crashing Storm
Crashing storms is a favorite of mine!

18. Reading – Pile of Magazines or Novel
Novel, not very novel is it?

19. Classic Film – Romance or Suspense or Musical
Suspense or a combination of the first two choices. I do like old musicals, but not overall.

20. Cat in your lap or Dog on your feet
Cat in my lap! My kitties are my good friends and love to sit on my lap if I’m sitting.
